South Carolina football is a finalist for 4-star Rock Hill defensive back Tamarion Watkins.
The Gamecocks have already secured a major commitment from Rock Hill native J’Zavien Currence, and now their defensive coaches are focused on another top local talent—four-star defensive back Tamarion Watkins.
Watkins, who stars at Northwestern High School, recently announced his top four college choices: South Carolina, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Miami. According to On3’s Industry Ranking, he’s ranked as the No. 33 safety nationally and the No. 6 overall prospect in South Carolina.

At 6-foot-4 and 201 pounds, Watkins brings impressive size and physicality to the secondary. His frame and skill set have even attracted interest from schools like Georgia as a potential linebacker earlier in the recruitment process. Regardless of where he ends up playing, Watkins is a versatile and athletic defender with strong tackling skills and excellent range. While he also contributes on offense for his high school team, his collegiate future is expected to be on defense.
South Carolina has consistently been seen as a top contender for Watkins, but his recruitment is still open. He has scheduled official visits with each of his four finalists this summer and is also considering a visit to Alabama, although it’s uncertain if that trip will happen.
