Huge Addition: Rangers Lands Home Another Hard-nosed Player From Area Rival To bolster Their forward Depth

The New York Rangers have made a significant move in the offseason by signing former Edmonton Oilers forward Adam Erne to a professional tryout (PTO) contract. This addition is seen as a strategic effort to bolster the team’s depth and add a physical presence to their forward lines.

Erne, 29, brings with him eight years of NHL experience, having previously played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, and most recently, the Edmonton Oilers. Over his career, he has accumulated 41 goals and 50 assists in 379 games. In the 2024-2025 season, Erne played 24 games for the Oilers, recording one goal and one assist. He is known for his physical style of play and his ability to contribute to the team’s energy and grit.

The Rangers’ decision to bring Erne on a PTO allows both the player and the team to assess fit without a long-term commitment. If Erne impresses during training camp and preseason, he could secure a spot on the roster, providing the Rangers with added depth and versatility in their forward lines.

This move aligns with the Rangers’ broader strategy to strengthen their lineup and address areas of need. By adding experienced players like Erne, the team aims to enhance their competitiveness and depth, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the upcoming season.

As training camp progresses, all eyes will be on Erne to see if he can earn a permanent spot with the Rangers and contribute to the team’s success in the 2025-2026 NHL season.
