Major Breaking: Yankees Sign Former 13-Game Winner With New Jersey Roots

While the Yankees have been focused on the status of injured third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera, they made a quiet roster move on Tuesday by adding a seasoned arm to the organization.

Veteran right-hander Anthony DeSclafani, a Freehold, N.J. native with nine years of MLB experience, signed a minor league deal with the Yankees, as first reported by Conor Foley of YES Network.

Anthony DeSclafani, 35, hasn’t pitched since undergoing forearm flexor tendon surgery in March 2024 while with the Twins.

Over his MLB career, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander holds a 54–56 record with a 4.19 ERA across 180 games (169 starts), having pitched for the Marlins (2014), Reds (2015–16, 2018–20), and Giants (2023). His standout season came in 2021, when he posted a 13–7 record with a 3.17 ERA over 167.2 innings in 31 starts for San Francisco.

The signing came shortly after the Yankees placed Oswaldo Cabrera on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left ankle. In a corresponding move, they activated DJ LeMahieu, who returns after missing time with a calf injury sustained early in spring training.

Cabrera sustained his injury in the ninth inning of Monday night’s 11-5 Yankees victory over the Mariners in Seattle. He was hurt while scoring from third base on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge.
