The Buffalo Bills have made a habit of reuniting with former players in recent years, and another familiar face could soon return to the fold.
On May 7, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced the release of wide receiver Gabe Davis, who left Buffalo last offseason to sign a three-year, $39 million deal with the team. Davis struggled with injuries during his lone season in Jacksonville and was unable to replicate the production he had while catching passes from Josh Allen in Buffalo, leading to his unexpected release.
Given the Bills’ current need for help at wide receiver, Davis’s availability has sparked speculation that he could return to Buffalo for the upcoming season.
Gabe Davis Could Help Strengthen Bills’ Receiving Unit
The Bills have reshaped their receiving corps over the past year, moving on from Stefon Diggs and letting Davis walk in free agency. In their place, the team embraced a more balanced passing approach, aiming to spread the ball around rather than relying on a top target.
However, some believe Davis could still be a valuable addition—particularly if he comes at a team-friendly price. Syracuse.com reporter Matt Parrino noted that Davis could be a logical fit, especially with Mack Hollins’ former role still unfilled.

“Depends on the money, of course, but Mack Hollins’ role – the one originally held by Davis – is currently vacant,” Parrino wrote on X. “He’s a locker room guy who had his best success with Allen. When healthy, he’s shown to be a viable deep threat. All about the money though. Would he take $3-5 million?”
Although many fans pushed back on the idea, reporter Matt Parrino suggested that bringing Gabe Davis back could add valuable competition to the Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver group this summer.
Davis is coming off a disappointing, injury-shortened season in Jacksonville, where he managed just 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games before a torn meniscus landed him on injured reserve. His performance marked a steep decline from his days in Buffalo, where he was the No. 2 receiver and a reliable postseason weapon—most memorably catching four touchdowns in a playoff loss to the Chiefs during the 2021 season.
While a return to Buffalo remains a possibility, Davis may also explore other opportunities. One potential landing spot could be the New York Giants, where former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll—now the head coach—has brought in several ex-Bills players since taking over.
Bills Continue Rebuilding Wide Receiver Corps
Even as speculation swirls about Davis, the Bills have already been active in reshaping their receiving unit. Earlier this month, they signed veteran wideout Elijah Moore. A consistent contributor during his time with the Jets and Browns, Moore has topped 450 receiving yards in each of his four NFL seasons.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, Moore expressed optimism about joining Buffalo’s high-powered offense.
“This is my third team, and there’s always a stigma that comes with that,” Moore said, according to the Democrat & Chronicle. “But I know who I am and what I bring. When the opportunity with the Bills came up, it brought a lot of excitement—just knowing how I’d be valued and how I’d fit in.”
