Breaking: Steelers Strengthens Depth With The Landing Of Another Hard-nosed Key Weapon To One-year $2million Bridge Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially signed veteran wide receiver Robert Woods to a one-year contract on Thursday. While the team didn’t disclose financial details, NFL Network reported the deal is valued at $2 million.

Woods, who turned 33 earlier this month, brings over a decade of NFL experience and has suited up for four teams since being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of USC. Known for his route-running, reliability, and run-blocking prowess, Woods is expected to provide depth and veteran leadership to Pittsburgh’s receiving corps.

Robert Woods joins the Pittsburgh Steelers with a wealth of experience, tallying 683 receptions for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns across 171 career games (145 starts) over 12 NFL seasons with the Bills, Rams, Titans, and Texans. He’s also added 75 carries for 514 rushing yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his versatility. In the postseason, Woods has contributed 42 catches for 449 yards and a touchdown in 10 games (seven starts).

In 2023, he appeared in 15 games (four starts) for the Houston Texans, catching 20 of 30 targets for 203 yards at a 10.2-yard average. While last season marked a career low in production, Woods still holds a solid 12.1 yards per catch average for his career.

With his signing, the Steelers’ receiving corps now features a blend of youth and experience, headlined by George Pickens, rookie Roman Wilson, slot man Calvin Austin Jr., veteran Scotty Miller, and newly acquired two-time Pro Bowler D.K. Metcalf. Woods is expected to provide reliable depth and veteran leadership, with a chance to contribute as a blocker and possession receiver in Arthur Smith’s offense.
